What is functional food for cats?

But what does functional nutrition for cats actually mean? Functional nutrition is essentially maintenance food developed with specific ingredients and attention to the ratio of nutrients to support cats with specific needs. It can be used as part of their daily diet without any special restrictions or usage limits.

When is functional nutrition needed?

Functional nutrition is particularly useful for healthy cats with specific dietary needs due to various factors such as physiological condition, environmental or seasonal changes, or genetic predisposition. However, this does not mean it cannot be used for cats not experiencing such needs at the moment; it still falls within the category of maintenance food.

For cats with chronic health issues such as obesity, kidney failure, liver disorders, gastroenteritis, or urinary tract obstruction, specific products recommended known as 'veterinary diets' or 'prescription diets.'

The complete wet food Almo Nature Intestinal Help is formulated with prebiotics and minerals that contribute to the formation of a protective layer on the intestinal walls, promoting good intestinal function.

When is Almo Nature Sterilised recommended?

Almo Nature Sterilised food is ideal for sterilized cats or indoor cats with limited physical activity. It helps maintain a healthy weight and contains minerals well balanced for their well-being. Almo Nature Sterilised wet food is also suitable for non-sterilized cats during hot weather as a low-fat and moisturizing meal.

When is Almo Nature Anti Hairball recommended?

Almo Nature Anti Hairball food is convenient during seasonal changes or when multiple cats live together, increasing grooming activities as they lick each other in turn. When is functional nutrition not recommended?

Almo Nature's functional nutrition is not recommended for cats with diagnosed diseases or conditions such as kidney insufficiency, bladder inflammation, or gastrointestinal disorders, for cats needing to lose weight, or for cats with allergies to animal proteins. In such cases, it is advised to follow the nutritional advice of the veterinarian.

General nutritional advice

By combining wet food and dry food, your cat receives sufficient energy and absorbs a portion of the moisture it needs daily. Wet food is given in the morning and evening, while dry food is always available in small portions. An adult cat weighing 4 kg needs an average of 220 kcal per day. Therefore, Almo Nature recommends daily feeding of 140 grams of wet food + 35 grams of dry food and 100 ml of water.

A healthy cat should consume a minimum amount of water daily. Specifically, it is 1 ml of water per kcal energy requirement. Provide your cat with the right amount of wet food and dry food daily, based on its weight.
