For which dog?

A raincoat can be a welcome addition for both the dog and its owner. In autumn and winter, a wet coat does not dry quickly, which means the dog can cool down more quickly. In addition, a damp dog coat often brings unpleasant odours and leaves damp spots on the places where the dog rests, such as the basket, the carpet or even the sofa. A raincoat helps to prevent this to a large extent.

Although a raincoat is often considered the more practical choice, a warm coat can also be essential in some cases. Larger dogs with thick coats are generally well protected against the cold, but the importance of extra warmth is often underestimated for other dogs. Consider:

Small, short-haired dogs such as Chihuahuas and French bulldogs, which have more difficulty creating and retaining sufficient body heat.
Breeds with naturally long coats that are frequently trimmed, such as Poodles, where trimming can affect the natural properties of the coat.
Slender built breeds with short coats, such as Greyhounds and Whippets.
Dogs with short legs, such as Corgis, where the bellies of these dogs are low to the ground and can easily come into contact with snow or ice.
Older dogs, who often suffer from conditions such as arthritis or a weakened immune system. Also, the regulation of body heat can decrease with age.
